One of the perks of being a photographer, is being asked to capture the milestones of dear friends and their children. On this particular Saturday, I had the honor of shooting sweet, miracle baby Joshua and his equally sweet, big sister, Reese.
Just above his cozy, little crib is a beautiful picture of the "Joshua" tree. It's been said that the complex "Joshua" tree isn't one tree at all, but rather a family of trees growing from the root of a parent, in a circle or a row. Other "Joshua" trees stand alone as the result of the travels of adventuresome seeds.
I love this representation of family, surrounded by strong roots and resources needed for nourishment and growth, in all seasons of life. For baby Joshua, especially during this delicate time of surgery and recovery, the roots that surround him will hold him strong as they all embark on the journey to mend his sweet heart. Just as he is held up by family, he also stands alone like the traveling seed, in the determination, resilience and strength that can only be attributed to his unique, beautiful spirit.
What an amazing addition to 2011 and what a lucky little boy to have such a strong, lovely,
family surrounding him.
